Playing at the Fox till April 2

I was given complimentary tickets in exchange for this review.  However, my opinions as always are exclusively my own.

Overall, the Bodyguard was an amazing production! The opening scene starts off with a gunshot which immediately grabs the attention of the audience. Rachel Marron played by Deborah Cox singing “Queen of the Night” during the first act drew the audience in and kept us captive in anticipation of what was next to come.

For those of us who haven’t seen the movie in many years, it was very suspenseful watching the story unfold while being excited to hear the musical ensembles. Rachel Marron (Deborah Cox) and her sister Nicki played by Jasmine Richardson performed some of Whitney Houston's’ most memorable hits including “Greatest Love of All”, “Saving All My Love”, and “Run to You” at times encouraging the audience to clap and sing along. For the true Whitney Houston fans, it was hard not to sing along so we definitely enjoyed the encouragement to sing along!

This production incites many different emotions and reactions from laughter to tears, suspense to relief, and fear to joy. The comedic notes throughout the production by lead Actor Judson Mills playing the bodyguard Frank Farmer had everyone bursting in laughter. The supporting cast made those scenes even funnier with their realistic reactions and responses.

The highlight of the show for me was right before the closing act when Deborah Cox rose from the stage on a platform in a beautiful silver and black ball gown singing “I Will Always Love You”. It was at this point that the entire audience rose to their feet for a standing ovation. Hearing her perform that song took me back to Saturday mornings as a child when I would use the broom as a microphone and sing Whitney Houston songs while cleaning the house. The entire audience remained on our feet while the rest of the cast came out and closed the show with “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”. There was not a single person in the entire auditorium that wasn’t up singing and dancing for that! My bestfriend and I had a great time and i'm sure you will too!
