StayCation ~ GIVEAWAY ~ Zoo Atlanta

#OnlyZooATL Open from 9:30am - 4:30pm daily

By Zoo Atlanta March 30, 2018

Macaroni Kid Evans & Augusta thanks Zoo Atlanta for providing these giveaway tickets for our local subscriber families. Here are the highlights of the FUN waiting for you at Zoo Atlanta for Spring Break 2018.  ~ MK Publisher Scarlett ~

Must-dos at the Zoo and Spring Break Tips

Animal highlights include Ya Lun and Xi Lun, the only giant panda twins in the U.S., and one of North America’s largest populations of great apes. Find two of the Zoo’s newest arrivals, African slender-snouted crocodiles, in an updated new habitat in Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience. Look for one of the Zoo’s youngest family members, a male Angolan colobus infant born to Lami on March 8, with his family in The Ford African Rain Forest.

·       Zoo Atlanta opens daily at 9:30 a.m., and during our busy season, would always advise that guests arrive early – as close to opening time as possible. If it’s not possible to arrive early, then folks may consider arriving after 2 p.m. Purchase tickets at zooatlanta.org in advance to expedite entry. We close at 5:30 p.m. and, in order to be able to see and do everything, would suggest that visitors allow at least two hours. Animals may start going indoors for the evening between 4:30 and 5 p.m.

·         There is free parking available in the Cherokee Avenue parking lot, but it does fill up very quickly. There is street parking available as well.

·         Splash Fountain opens for the season on Saturday, March 31. This is our water play experience and is very popular with the kids. If parents think their children would enjoy it, we would advise bringing a bathing suit or another change of clothes for them, because they will get wet there!

·         We would definitely suggest that everyone get a copy of the Zoo map on arrival. Paper copies are available at Zoo Admissions, but you can also access the map online at zooatlanta.org/map. This is not only a good resource for navigating around the Zoo, but is also a great way to know about all of the activities (Keeper Talks, wildlife presentations, animal training demonstrations and feedings) happening around the Zoo on any given day. On accessing zooatlanta.org/map, there’s also a feature called Plan Your Itinerary that allows guests to customize an itinerary for their visit.

·         Treetop Trail (https://zooatlanta.org/activity/treetop-trail/) is not included with general admission, but is a really cool add-on. Parents interested in Treetop Trail should check out that webpage in advance, as it has all of the relevant guidelines listed. Anyone who plans to do Treetop Trail will need to make sure to wear closed-toed shoes.

Don’t miss special on-grounds programming designed to inspire everyday conservation action. New in 2018, a series of Conservation Action Carts focus on themes such as sustainable shopping; recycling; habitat loss and deforestation; the illegal wildlife trade; backyard conservation; stewardship of natural resources; and responsible pet ownership. Each is designed to promote the simple actions all individuals can take to make an impact on the preservation of species and their habitats.

Twenty-five cents of every Zoo Atlanta general admission ticket go toward programs for wildlife through the Zoo’s Quarters for Conservation initiative. Projects supported in the 2017-2018 program year are the East Africa Vulture Project, Project Bush Dog and the Tiger Conservation Campaign. Visit zooatlanta.org/conservation to learn more about these and many other programs and partnerships supported by Zoo Atlanta in wild places around the globe.
