ATLANTA - The critically acclaimed National Ballet Theater of Odessa - Ukraine returns to the Fox Theatre (660 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30308) to perform a brand-new production of “Romeo and Juliet,” the world’s greatest romantic tragedy.
One of classical ballet’s all-time favorites, the National Ballet Theater of Odessa’s production of “Romeo and Juliet” is set to Sergei Prokofiev’s romantic and powerful score with new choreography by Mikhail Lavrovsky. Alternating in the title role of Juliet are Elena Dobryanskaya and Olga Vorobyeva Romeo will be danced by Sergey Dotsenko and Stanislav Skrynnik.

Arguably the most famous love story of all time, Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” tells the tale of a boy and a girl from warring families who meet and fall in love. Fate is not on their side, however. Due to a series of fateful misunderstandings, the story of the two young lovers who try to elope ends in tragedy.
About National Ballet Theater of Odessa, Ukraine
The year 1923, was a milestone in the history of the Odessa City Theater when its Ballet Company staged an in-house production of Swan Lake for the very first time ever. The press called it "the first attempt to create a real ballet performance in the history of the City Theater".
The ballet was staged by the ballet master Robert Balanotti. Swan Lake was followed by The Little Humpbacked Horse, Coppelia and Le Corsaire.
In 1926, Kasyan Goleizovsky came to Odessa. His groundbreaking approach to choreography had an immense effect on the future of the Odessa ballet troupe. His ballets Joseph the Beautiful, In the Sunlight, but foremost the breathtaking Polovetsian Dances from the A. Borodin opera Prince Igor, which attained international fame, immediately won the hearts and minds of the Odessa audience. The Theater-Club-Movie Magazine referred to Goleizovsky's productions as "Contemporary ballet factory" and "Odessa, the ballet Hollywood".
